On November 28, 2017 Cheetah Conservation Fund’s General Manager Dr. Brewer presented at an aerial photography workshop in Hong Kong. DJI, a Chinese company that makes unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) or drones, for aerial photography and videography, hosted the event, which also featured a presentation by Mike Bishop, a multidisciplinary creative director and filmmaker specializing in aerial film direction. The event was held in Mike Bishop’s workshop/gallery space in DJI’s flagship store in Hong Kong.
Dr. Brewer presentation was titled The contribution of aerial photography to modern wildlife conservation efforts, and it focused on CCF’s conservation efforts. Dr. Brewer highlighted how UAVs and drone footage can assist scientists and conservationists in their work. At the close of the event, Dr. Brewer was presented with a DJI Phantom 4 Advanced to help assist in CCF’s work.
Bruce’s trip to Hong Kong was the result of DJI’s visit to CCF just one month prior. CCF was one of the stops on an aerial photography trip organized by DJI with the Namibia Tourism Board, Diamir and Air Namibia. Mike Bishop shot footage at CCF with the DJI Phantom 4, and he spent time touring the facilities with Dr. Brewer and CCF staff. DJI took footage at multiple locations around Namibia, including CCF and plans to release a short video promoting Namibian travel, in cooperation with the Namibian Tourism Board.
Photos taken during this shoot were sold at the film’s premiere and the proceeds were donated to CCF.
