The livestock guarding dog programme is one of the most successful initiatives at Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF). CCF breeds livestock guarding dogs at our model farm in Namibia. The dogs are placed with farmers in ‘hotspots’ of human-wildlife conflict (HWC). These special animals use their imposing presence and loud bark to warn off predators such as cheetahs, stopping farmers from trapping or shooting them in retaliation for killing their livestock. The programme is proven to reduce livestock losses to predators by up to 90%.

There is currently a waiting list of Namibian farmers in need of a livestock guarding dog.

Adopt a livestock guarding dog, for as little as £3 per month, and help continue to decrease human-wildlife conflict across Namibia and expand the programme into more of the cheetah’s range.

Every adoption is vital. Every adoption provides us with more tools to safeguard cheetahs from extinction. Please, if you can, adopt a livestock guarding dog, today.

Due to international postage fees, adoptions are currently only available for delivery within the UK.

What’s included in my livestock guarding dog adoption?

As a livestock guarding dog adopter, not only will you be funding vital conservation work, but you will also receive an exclusive CCF UK adoption pack, including a species factsheet, glossy photo, and 3 cloth badges. You will also be added to our update list keeping you informed on how your support is making a difference to cheetahs in the wild.

Adoptions last one year (those paid monthly by direct debit roll-over until cancelled). To cancel contact matt@cheetah.org.uk
If you’d prefer not to set up a direct debit you can make a one-off payment of just £36 to receive an adoption pack, offering a full year of support.

How your livestock guarding dog adoption will help?

CCF’s work, which is only possibly thanks to the generosity of supporters like you, continues to provide hope for wild cheetah populations. Your adoption will help conservation efforts by:

– Breeding, rearing and training livestock guarding dogs to support farmers and protect their livestock.
– Provide veterinary care, medicines and health checks for livestock guarding dogs.
– Supporting the running of our Model Farm at CCF Namibia.
– Snake aversion training – to mitigate life-threatening conflict of our livestock guarding dogs with venomous snakes.
– Mitigating HWC through our Future Farmers of Africa programme, training farmers on predator-friendly livestock management techniques and how to care for their livestock guarding dogs.
