Conservation Conversation Event: Celebrating 25 Years of Big Cat Conservation

We are thrilled to invite you to the first conservation event of 2025, a special occasion celebrating 25 years of big cat conservation and welfare. Hosted at The Big Cat Sanctuary, this event will bring conservationists, supporters, and experts together to discuss the future of cheetahs and ongoing efforts to protect them.

We are honoured to welcome Dr. Laurie Marker, Founder of Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF), who will provide insights into CCF’s vital work in Somaliland and Namibia. She will discuss the innovative strategies being implemented to combat human-wildlife conflict, including the use of livestock guarding dogs and mitigation efforts to prevent retaliation killings.

Additionally, Dr. Bruce Brewer, PhD, General Manager at CCF, will present on the BushBlok programme, a sustainable initiative that transforms invasive bush encroachment into an eco-friendly biomass fuel—benefitting local communities and wildlife habitats.

Why This Event Matters

Cheetahs are Africa’s most endangered large cat, with fewer than 7,000 individuals remaining in the wild. Despite being classified as a small cat species, their incredible speed and muscular build set them apart. This event provides a unique opportunity to learn from leading conservationists, support crucial initiatives, and engage with the incredible work being done to protect these magnificent animals.

James Hanaway, Director of Development for CCF UK, will also be present to share exciting fundraising plans for 2025, highlighting ways we can work together to ensure the survival of this iconic species.
