Recent Confiscation of Four Cheetah Cubs

In late February, four cheetah cubs were rescued from the illegal wildlife trade in Somaliland, approximately 60 kilometres from the capital Hargeisa. With the swift collaboration of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change MoECC) the cubs were transferred to CCF for care. The cubs were hungry and dehydrated, so the urgent triage process was immediate, and the cubs received subcutaneous fluids and high-density nutrition from the back of the CCF team truck. Once they were stabilized, they were moved to the CCF’s Cheetah Rescue and Conservation Centre, in Geed-Deeble, where they were quarantined and on the path to recovery.

With these new cubs, the number of cheetahs under CCF’s care at the Cheetah Rescue & Conservation Centre in Geed-Deeble, Somaliland is now 100.  Like so many others cubs at the centre, these four cubs were torn from their mother at just a few weeks old—frightened, weak, and robbed of their chance to grow up in the wild.

Cheetah cubs are extremely fragile. Without urgent intervention, their survival is at risk. Even with the best care, many rescued cheetahs can never return to the wild, as they miss the critical lessons only a mother can teach.  Since its founding, CCF has worked tirelessly to combat the illegal wildlife trade and protect wild cheetahs.
Help us give these cubs a second chance!  The fight to stop illegal willdlife/pet trade continues.
