Spotlight on Cheetah Conservation Fund in Born to Explore’s PBS Television Special, Namibia: Land of the Cheetah

National Premiere Set for Friday, October 12, 2018; Program Airs Nationally Through 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Oct. 11, 2018) – In a new, one-hour, documentary special, explorer and host Richard Wiese brings his Born to Explore cameras to Namibia for an in-depth look at Africa’s most endangered big cat – the cheetah. With scenes shot on location at Cheetah Conservation Fund’s (CCF) Field Research & Education Centre in Otjiwarongo, Namibia, the special focuses on CCF’s efforts to sustain the species. The special features segments on CCF’s Livestock Guarding Dog Program, the highly successful conservation initiative that pairs dogs with farmers to protect livestock while saving predators; a cheetah health check at the CCF veterinary clinic; scientists at work in CCF’s research laboratory; and a ride into the Namibian bush to track Xena, a rewilded cheetah, as she makes her first kill. Namibia: Land of the Cheetah also features interviews with CCF Founder and Executive Director, Dr. Laurie Marker.

“We are very excited to be a part of this amazing television project,” said Dr. Laurie Marker. “We hope everyone will be watching on Friday evening, and if you cannot, we encourage you to set your DVRs. Namibia: Land of the Cheetah on PBS Television creates an excellent opportunity for a viewing party with family and friends, and the subject matter is appropriate for all ages. By coming together and talking about the problems cheetahs face, and the possible solutions, we can work towards creating a permanent place for cheetahs. Here on Earth, and here, in Namibia.”

In addition, the special includes footage of Richard Wiese exploring the Namibian countryside on route to CCF, encountering the largest sand dunes in the world and observing many wild species, from wildebeest and zebras to lions.

Namibia: Land of the Cheetah premieres on PBS stations, Friday, October 12, 2018. The special airs nationally through 2019. Please check your local listings for airtimes.
