BORN TO EXPLORE WITH RICHARD WIESE IS HONORED WITH DAYTIME EMMY® NOMINATION

Westport, CT (March 26, 2019) The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) has honored Born to Explore with Richard Wiese with a nomination for the 46th Annual Daytime Emmy® Awards in the category of Outstanding Travel and Adventure Program. This is the series’ 14th Emmy® nomination since its premiere in 2011.

Born to Explore is produced in partnership with WGBH-Boston, PBS’ single largest producer of television and digital content and airs nationally on PBS stations. “In this series, adventurer and explorer Richard Wiese opens the door to other cultures and traditions,” said Laurie Donnelly, Executive Producer in Charge of Lifestyle Programming at WGBH. “Using his trademark style and humor and a natural curiosity, Richard makes going along for the ride truly memorable.”

Against a backdrop of stunning landscapes and extraordinary wildlife, Born to Explore journeys around the world to celebrate the diverse cultures and natural wonders of the planet.

In recent episodes, host Richard Wiese safaris in Sri Lanka in search of leopard, sloth bears and the largest gathering of wild Asian elephants; joins the last remaining pearl diver under the Arabian Sea in Qatar; discovers the coral reefs and marine life of the Cayman Islands; learns what’s being done to save the cheetah population in Namibia. The series is underwritten by Aggressor Adventures.

Born to Explore with Richard Wiese captivates audiences with a spirited take on adventure travel, then uses its platform to raise awareness for species in peril, like the cheetah. We are so pleased for Namibia: Land of the Cheetah to be included in this wonderful television series. We congratulate WGBH-Boston and our good friend Richard Wiese on this well-deserved nomination,” said Dr. Laurie Marker, Founder and Executive Director of Cheetah Conservation Fund.

“I have a deep passion for exploration,” comments Wiese, who is also President of The Explorers Club, which boasts astronaut Neil Armstrong and film director James Cameron among its members. “Every week, Born to Explore is an adventure. We hope to foster a better understanding of world cultures along with good stewardship of the earth.”

“We are so humbled by this nomination,” adds Executive Producer, Mercedes Velgot. “Our small production group loves telling a good story. Every week, we strive to create an authentic experience to inspire and entertain our viewers.”

Wiese and Velgot are both residents of Weston and have been friends for over two decades.

Born to Explore has earned 14 Daytime Emmy® nominations and has won two Daytime Emmy® Awards for Outstanding Single-Camera Cinematography and Outstanding Live Action Sound Mixing.

The Daytime Creative Arts Emmy® Awards gala will be held on May 3 in Los Angeles.
