Ashley

Veterinary Nurse/Cheetah Keeper

(2016-present) Ashley was born and raised in Florida and attended the University of South Florida earning a Bachelor’s degree in Biology with a minor in Environmental Policy. While at the university, she was very active in the Outdoor Recreational Center which allowed her to develop her wilderness skills and become a team leader taking student groups on backcountry hiking, canoeing, and kayaking trips. She also completed multiple internships at zoo’s and conservation centers throughout her college career including the Palm Beach Zoo, Cheetah Outreach in South Africa, and White Oak Conservation Center. During these internships, Ashley developed a love and passion for wildlife conservation and public education. After graduation, Ashley was hired as a lead feline keeper and intern coordinator at Panther Ridge Conservation Center where she worked with multiple feline species including cheetahs. Working at these facilities sparked an interest in zoological medicine and prompted her to pursue her Veterinary Nursing Certification from St. Petersburg College. Ashley worked at Millhopper Veterinary Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida from 2012-2016 as a floor veterinary nurse, employee supervisor and lead surgical nurse. She graduated with Honors from the Veterinary Nursing program in 2015 and was certified in early 2016.

When the opportunity to work at Cheetah Conservation Fund as a veterinary nurse and cheetah keeper was presented, Ashley jumped at the chance to become involved in cheetah conservation work again. She is now part of the veterinary team as a nurse for all the animals at CCF and one of the primary caretakers of the cheetahs and a handler for the four ambassador cheetahs.
